What is a public poll?

Public opinion polls have a crucial role in surveying the thoughts of the general public regarding the government’s performance, public policies, and key issues that interest the public, such as economics, politics, society, the environment, religion, and culture. Surveys are conducted and results are published regularly every Sunday.

The prominence of NIDA Poll's data collection process

“NIDA Poll” stands out and is different from other polling agencies or research units because it gathers data through telephone interviews. Sampling is done from a Master Sample database, which currently includes around 376,867 sample units distributed by region, gender, marital status, age, religion, education level, occupation, and income across the country. The data collection for each poll is proportionally adjusted to closely match the actual demographics of the population, with a focus on geographical areas, gender, and age. This methodology ensures a high level of accuracy in the poll results, as shown by the precise predictions of past Bangkok Metropolitan Governor elections and the 2023 Bangkok Metropolitan Region Members of Parliament election. In predicting the Bangkok Metropolitan Governor election in 2013, “NIDA Poll” was the only polling agency in Thailand to correctly predict that M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra would be elected as the Bangkok Metropolitan Governor. Similarly, in predicting the Bangkok Metropolitan Governor election

in 2022, “NIDA Poll” was the sole polling agency to forecast that Mr. Chatchat Sitthipan would be elected as the Bangkok Metropolitan Governor with over 50% of the votes, estimating him to receive approximately 50%, a deviation of only 1.91% from the actual election results. Additionally, during the Bangkok Metropolitan Region Members of Parliament election on May 14, 2023, “NIDA Poll” accurately predicted the election results in all 33 constituencies. In the 2025 Chiang Mai Provincial Administrative Organization (PAO) Chief Election, the margin of difference between the NIDA Poll survey results and the actual vote count was found to be insignificant. This precision in survey results, combined with public acceptance, establishes the credibility and value of the survey findings from “NIDA Poll.”

To validate the collected data, phone numbers that participated in the survey are randomly selected for follow-up calls to assess the behavior of data collectors and cross-verify recorded responses. Fieldwork for data collection undergoes various forms of operational checks, such as on-site random inspections by fieldwork staff to ensure accurate data collection processes. Any identified errors prompt a revisit to the field for data recollection.
