History of NIDA Poll
2518
Establishment
The National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) conducted a significant survey regarding the election of House of Representatives members on January 26, 1975. This survey, the first of its kind in Thailand, utilized statistical expertise to closely predict election results. Consequently, the NIDA Poll gained widespread recognition during that period.

The rehabilitation and development of NIDA Poll
Professor Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, Ph.D., the President of NIDA at the time, advocated for the revival of the "NIDA Poll" through public opinion surveys conducted via telephone data collection methods. This initiative involved Professor Prachum Suwattathi, Ph.D., and Associate Professor Pachitchanat Siripanich, Ph.D., in developing a sampling frame to ensure that the poll sample accurately represented the Thai population. The NIDA Poll stored data in a master sample database, and the program development for random telephone number assignments was overseen by Associate Professor Pramote Kuacharoen, Ph.D.

A major turning point
The precise forecasting of the election outcome for the position of Governor of Bangkok in March 2013 was a pivotal moment for the NIDA Poll Center. It was during this time that the NIDA Poll stood out as the sole polling agency in Thailand capable of accurately predicting election results. The slight difference of only 4.59% between the NIDA Poll’s survey findings and the official election results announced by the Election Commission led to widespread recognition and acceptance of the NIDA Poll among the public.
